Product walkthrough
How BatchBrief works — from first batch to finished work
A step-by-step guide to the assigner and receiver workflow. No marketing abstractions — just what you'll see in the product.
Assigner
Creates batches & monitors all items
Dashboard with All Items, People, Add Items, Progress, and Deleted Items tabs.
Receiver
Works from a private list only
My List view — only assigned rows, with status, doc URL, and notes. No full batch access.
Step 01
Set up your workspace
After signup, onboarding walks you through naming your workspace and adding your first batch. The assigner becomes the workspace owner with full dashboard access.
Invite receivers from the People & Invitations tab — send an email invitation or copy an invite link. Receivers join with their own login and land on My List, not the full dashboard.

Step 02
Add work in bulk with paste input
Open the Add Items tab and paste your list — one item per line. BatchBrief trims blank lines and counts how many rows will be created.
There is no CSV import in the app today. You paste plain text. Assigners can export data as CSV from the dashboard or Settings, including on Free.

5 items → ~2 each across 3 people
Step 03
Choose how items are distributed
Before creating tasks, pick an assignment mode:
- Assign evenly across people — round-robin split across active receivers
- Assign all to one person — every new row goes to a single assignee
- Do not assign yet — add rows without an owner; assign later from All Items
Click Create tasks to add them to the tracker.

Step 04
Assigner monitors the full batch
The All Items tab is the assigner master view — every row, every assignee, every status. Search and filter by status or assignee.
Assigners can edit any field on any row, including reassigning from the assignee dropdown. Receivers never see this view.
| Item | Assignee | Status |
|---|---|---|
| On-page SEO basics | Alex ▾ | In progress |
| Core Web Vitals guide | Jamie ▾ | Completed |
| Link building strategy | Alex ▾ | Not started |
| Schema markup 101 | Sam ▾ | Ready for review |
Step 05
Receiver opens a private list
When a receiver logs in, they go to My List — a filtered view showing only rows assigned to them.
They see item counts and progress stats for their work only. Jamie's rows, Sam's rows, and the full batch are not visible.

This list is private to you. Other team members cannot see your items, notes, or progress.
Step 06
Receiver updates status, doc URL, and notes
Each row has editable fields receivers own:
- Status — Not started, In progress, Draft done, or Completed
- Doc or URL — link to their deliverable
- Notes — freeform context for the assigner
Changes save automatically when a field is updated — there is no separate save button.
| Item | Status | Doc or URL | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-page SEO basics | In progress ▾ | draft-1.doc | Check H1 tags |
Step 07
Assigner tracks team progress
The Progress tab shows overall completion and a breakdown per assignee — how many items each person has and what percentage is published.
Use this to spot bottlenecks without asking receivers to share their private lists.
- Alex2 assigned · 50% complete
- Jamie2 assigned · 100% complete
- Sam1 assigned · 0% complete
Step 08
Reassign and manage when plans change
Plans shift. Reassign individual rows from All Items, soft-delete mistakes to the Deleted Items tab, or restore them later. Remove team members and cancel pending invitations from People & Invitations.
When someone is removed, their assigned items become unassigned until you reassign them.
Reassign a single row
On the All Items tab, change the assignee dropdown on any row. BatchBrief records the new owner immediately.
Remove or restore items
Soft-delete rows from All Items — they move to the Deleted Items tab where you can restore them. Cancel pending invitations from People & Invitations.
Practical behavior notes
- →Privacy is server-side. Receivers cannot access the full batch or other people's rows — filtering happens before data reaches their browser.
- →Free plan limits: up to 3 receivers and 20 active items per workspace (completed items still count until deleted). Pro removes those caps.
- →Start on Free. New workspaces begin on Free with a 3-receiver and 20 active-item cap. Upgrade anytime from Settings. Your data is kept.
- →CSV export is available to assigners from the dashboard and Settings, including on Free. Import is via paste only.
